Abdi joined a community meet-and-greet hosted by the African Canadian Heritage Alliance (ACHA) to welcome Sukh Dhaliwal, Member of Parliament for Surrey–Newton, during his visit to Edmonton over the Labour Day long weekend. Mr. Dhaliwal serves as Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health, Co-Chair of the Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament, Vice-Chair of the Special Joint Committee on the Exercise of Powers Under the Building Canada Act, and a member of the Canada–Africa Parliamentary Association — making the visit especially meaningful for Edmonton's Africa, Caribbean & Black community. The event was held at ACHA's Edmonton office.
